Gingivitis is the inflammation of the gum tissue surrounding the teeth and is considered an early stage of gum disease. This swelling is often caused by the build-up of plaque.
The main cause of gum problems is dental plaque. If the plaque isn’t removed regularly from the surface of the teeth and from places along the tooth line, it may irritate the gums and lead to serious damage.
Gingivitis and gum disease can lead to swollen gums, sore gums, receding gums and even tooth loss. Read more from the Oral-B Institute for further information on how to prevent and recognise the early signs of gingivitis and gum disease treatments.
